After the Hōyō(ritual ceremony of Buddhism)

The construction of the Great Buddha was initiated by Chief Priest Teruzen Sato, who, through his many years of experience serving as a probation officer and PTA president at an elementary school, became concerned about the lack of awareness of the importance of life and human dignity among young people, as well as their loss of gratitude for the blessings of nature and their ancestors. He felt a strong need for a place of peace and tranquillity. In 2003, inspired by the Great Buddha statues in Nara and Kamakura, we vowed to build an open-air Yakushi Daibutsu statue that could be seen from far and wide as a symbol of relief from physical and mental illness. After ten years of work, our dream has finally come true.
