We have completed the restoration of the Tang-style Shumidan altar at Houkou-do Hall in the grand head temple of Soji-ji Temple.

We have completed restoration of the Tang style (Zen style) Shumidan altar in the Hõkõdõ Hall of the Grand Head Temple Soji-ji Temple (Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama City) and delivered and installed it.For the restoration, all of the lacquer was removed, the wooden base was adjusted at the Hõkõdõ Hall, andour lacquerware craftsmen performed all work from the foundation to the finish at our head office workshop in Matsudo.

Completed and placed with japanese lacquerware finish, the Hõkõdõ Shumidan has been beautifully restored.

After removing the lacquer, the wooden base was re-aligned with the columns at Hõkõdõ.

Disassembled Shumidan. The wooden base was repaired using kokuso (urushi based putty).
The finishing process included applying a hard fonudation (urushi based), nunokise (cloth pasting), finishing lacquerware, and Roiro-urushi.
