Opening of the Golden Room at Suiundo Head Office
The "Golden Room" which was constructed by Suiundo(翠雲堂) about 35 years ago and decorated with pure gold powder(純金粉 jyunkinnpun) and stamped with gold leaf(純金箔 jyunkinpaku), has been relocated to our headquarters. On December 10, 2022, we received the visit of Daizenshi Ishitsuki Shuugyou Shiundai Daizenshi from the Soto sect(曹洞宗) head temple Sojiji (總持寺)as the grand zen master(大禅師 daizenji), and Watanabe Keiji Kanin Roshi as the ryoban and leader, and opened the eyes(開眼 kaigen) of the Golden Room and the principal image of Shaka Nyorai. A prayer was held, and at the same time, a dedication ceremony for the newly renovated head office was held.
The gold leaf used in the approximately 12 tatami-sized Golden Room is gomoushoku (五毛色 gomoushoku 98.91% pure gold) and is stamped with urushi lacquer(漆 urushi). The pure gold powder(純金粉 jyunkinnpun) is sown directly,(直蒔き jikamaki) making it the most luxurious "Golden Room" in Japan (and the world!). "The price of gold at the time of construction was less than 1,500 yen per gram.Currently, 1 gram costs about 8,700 yen including tax, so there is no doubt that this is a very valuable golden room" says President Yutaka Yamaguchi(山口豊).
The Golden Room, constructed by Suiundo 35 years ago, was relocated to the Suiundo headquarters.
The wall surface under the nagashi is finished with pure gold powder. The nagashi is finished with Gomoushoku (98.91% pure gold) gold leaf.
Enduke Gomoushoku-Kinpaku and pure gold powder are applied with Urushi, preserving the original brilliance even after many years and inspiring admiration for the high level of craftsmanship.
